Interior and B.C. seeing fewer COVID-19 cases

COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations and deaths are on the decline across the province, including in the Interior.

The weekly COVID-19 report from the B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) showed there were 372 cases of COVID-19, 61 people admitted to the hospital with the virus, and 13 deaths due to COVID in the Interior between May 8–14.

The cases and hospitalizations were down from the previous week, which were recorded at 443 cases and 62 hospitalizations. There were 13 deaths linked to the virus the previous week as well.

Greater Vernon had 40 new cases of COVID-19 recorded last week, with 5 in Armstrong-Spallumcheen and 3 in Enderby. There were 94 new cases in the Central Okanagan.

Provincial figures show there were 1,645 new cases, 334 hospital admissions and 59 deaths linked to the virus last week.

Those were all down from the previous week’s figure of 1,985 cases, 391 hospitalizations and 84 deaths.

Fraser Health had the highest concentration of each category with 588 cases, 148 hospitalizations, and 26 deaths. Interior Health had the second highest figures in the new cases and deaths categories, while Vancouver Coastal Health had the second highest hospital admission count at 73.

To date, there have been 369,202 cases of COVID-19 recorded in B.C. and 3,002 deaths linked to the virus. Of those, 65,805 cases and 367 deaths were recorded in the Interior.
