Cyclist was trying to cross busy highway when hit
RCMP say a cyclist who was trying to cross the highway during morning rush hour traffic in Kelowna, was the victim of a collision with a car on Tuesday.
The 70-year-old male biker was hit by a northbound Honda Fit on Highway 97 at Parkinson Road just before 7:00 a.m. on May 24.
“The cyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” said Cpl. Tammy Lobb, media relations officer. “The Southeast Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended and assisted with the investigation.”
Lobb said the cyclist was trying to cross the busy highway from west to east before he was hit.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time,” the officer stated.
Lobb said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Part of the highway was closed for about three hours for the police investigation, casing long traffic back-ups between Vernon, Lake Country and Kelowna.
