RCMP are investigating a crash on Glenmore between McKinley and Slater yesterday. A Nissan Versa was travelling south on Glenmore when it passed a water truck before losing control, crossing into the northbound lane colliding with a Subaru. The drivers, both adult women, were taken to hospital with unknown injuries. Police would like to hear from any witnesses they haven’t spoken with.

Heads up on the west side. Monday through to Saturday next week the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens intersection will be closed to the public 24 hours a day for road paving and construction of the concrete apron for the inner circle of the roundabout. After that, the intersection will re-open to the public, with periodic minor delays until the end of July to complete boulevard work, and landscaping.

Tens of thousands of Ontario residents had another day without power as restoration efforts continued following a vicious weekend storm. At least 10 people died after Saturday’s storm that toppled trees, downed power lines and damaged property.

They ask for a minimum donation of 5 dollars per box with a maximum of 3 boxes and tax receipts are available for donations above $25.

On Sunday, the Dragoons will hold a Change of Command Ceremony at the cenotaph in City Park. They will march to the park from their Regiment headquarters on Lawrence Avenue. After the ceremony, the Dragoons will march back to headquarters along Leon. Rolling road closures will happen along both roads between 10:30am and noon. RCMP escorts will temporarily hold traffic at intersections.

A man who admitted to terrorism-related acts with the militant group Islamic State has been sentenced to 12 years in prison. Hussein Borhot appeared for a sentencing hearing in a Calgary courtroom yesterday. He pleaded guilty last month to one count of participating in terrorism group activity, as well as to kidnapping for a terrorist group while in Syria.

The RCMP bomb disposal squad was called to the far end of Bartley Road yesterday when a suspicious object was found along the road. 10-15 homes in the area were not evacuated but residents were asked to stay put. There had been no update as of last night.

It just gets worse in Texas. Joe Garcia, the husband of Irma Garcia, one of two teachers shot and killed on Tuesday, suffered a fatal heart attack. Joe and Irma were high school sweethearts and married 24 years. They leave behind four children.

Slovakia’s Prime Minister has warned that Russia will go further and his country could be next if Ukraine fails to win the war. Slovakia is a member of the European Union and NATO, and borders Ukraine. Meantime, a regional governor in eastern Ukraine says shelling of the city of Kharkiv killed at least four civilians and injured 7 others.

The ruling was that Blake Coleman kicked the puck in the Edmonton net and the result was the Flames and Oilers going to overtime. And it was Connor McDavid that got the winning goal that gave the Oilers a 4-1 series win to move on to the next round of the playoffs. And game 6 of the series between the Rangers and Carolina will be tomorrow in New York with the Hurricanes now up 3 games to 2 following a 3-1 win last night.

For the second time in as many weeks, the CFL and Players Association have reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement. It includes a ratification bonus for all players worth around 1.25 million dollars. The BC Lions are scheduled to play a preseason game in Calgary tomorrow.

It’s one of the showcase events of the Formula 1 season. The teams are in Monaco for Sunday’s race around the streets of the principality. It’s a ‘home’ race for many drivers who live there in the off season.

What a comeback! Canada is on to the semi finals at the World Hockey Championships after a 4-3 overtime win against Sweden. Canada was down 3-0 at one point. Drake Batherson of the Senators scored on the power play 43 seconds into the extra frame. Canada, the tournament’s defending champions, will face the Czechs in the semifinals tomorrow.

The Canucks have signed Swedish forward Linus Karlsson to an entry-level contract. He was originally selected by San José in the third round at the 2018 NHL Entry draft and was acquired by Vancouver from the Sharks in exchange for Jonathan Dahlen in February.
