Get set for more pain at the pumps. Some gas stations in the Central and North Okanagan have jacked up their price for regular by at least a dime. In many locations the price jumped from 204.9 to 216.9 a litre.

There were 218 cases of COVID-19 in the Interior between May 22 and 28, down from the 281 the week before. The BC Centre for Disease Control says 29 people were admitted to hospital with the virus, down from the 63 the previous week. And there were 10 deaths reported in the Interior, down from the 14 the week before.

The student-led Emergency First Responder Team at UBCO is credited with saving the life of an elderly student who suffered a heart attack recently at the campus. 77-year-old engineering student Murray Forbes was found unconscious in a courtyard. The student responders performed CPR for 22 minutes and used a defibrillator to get his heart beating again before he was taken to hospital where a pacemaker was implanted.

The Regional District Waste Reduction Office is hosting another pop-up recycling event to allow residents in the Central Okanagan to drop off depot only recyclables such as Styrofoam, glass and soft plastics. It will be held in Lake Country on Saturday, June 18 from 10am until 2pm at the parking lot at the corner of Main Street and Hill Road. Electronics will also be accepted.

A reminder to watch out for runners tomorrow morning as it’s the annual Hungry Hungry Half Marathon to benefit the Central Okanagan Food Bank. It starts at 7:30 at the Apple Bowl and for the most part participants will be staying North of Highway 97. It should wrap up about 11:30 and the Apple Bowl running track will be unavailable to the public until noon.

The deputy governor of the Bank of Canada says it may need to raise its key interest rate to three percent or beyond to ensure inflation doesn’t become entrenched. The groundwork for more oversized hikes follows the Bank’s big increase to its benchmark rate Wednesday of half a percentage point to 1.5 percent.

He faced as much as 20 years on a wire fraud conviction and a mandatory two-year sentence for aggravated identity theft.

NHL playoffs last night in Denver, 3 goals in a span of 2 minutes in the second period and that was enough for the Avalanche as they went on to a 4-0 win over the Oilers. The teams head to Edmonton tomorrow with Colorado up 2 games to none. The Rangers host the Lightning in game 2 of the East final tonight with New York up 1-0.

The Blue Jays swept their 3 game series with the White Sox taking an 8-3 win yesterday thanks to the 3-hit bat of Santiago Espinal. The Minnesota Twins visit Rogers Centre this weekend.

Going into the second round of ‘Jack’s Tournament’, The Memorial in Dublin, Ohio, there is a 6-way tie for the lead. Canadian Mackenzie Hughes is among those who shot 5-under on day 1.

After their blowout loss last week in Calgary, the BC Lions play their 2nd and final preseason game today. As a matter of fact there are 4 games today with the Leos hosting Saskatchewan at 7 and it’s on TSN.
