The Kelowna RCMP is asking anyone who may have been witnessed a serious car accident last month to get in touch with them. It happened May 22, at 9:15pm in the 1900-block of Enterprise Way, where a red Kia Rio collided with a grey Volkswagen Golf. Police are hoping witnesses they haven’t talked to or those with dash camera recordings that could possibly assist in the investigation will contact the Kelowna detachment.
It was a triple play for Kamloops RCMP. Drugs and weapons were seized after a man was arrested for reportedly driving erratically. Officers seized suspected drugs, cash, knives, an axe, baton, and other items, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. The man was released with a future court date.
Canada will work with California to address climate change and safeguard the environment. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor Gavin Newsom say it goes further than a 2019 agreement between the two on reducing vehicle emissions, and will work to deliver clean air and water, good jobs, and healthy communities. The deal will encourage sharing information and best practices as the world deals with a narrowing window to avoid the worst impacts of climate change.
Central Okanagan search and rescue helped BC Ambulance in Myra Canyon on Wednesday. A woman had been bicycling the trail with a friend when she hit a diagonal culvert, which caused her to lose control, and fall hard on her left side. She suffered a number of upper body injures and suspected internal injuries and was taken out on COSAR’s UTV.
After a 2 year break because of the pandemic, Canada Day celebrations will return to Lake Country July 1st. It kicks off at 8:00 with a Pancake Breakfast at Swalwell Park. Following that there will be entertainment including bands, a magician and food treats such as root beer floats, watermelon, cupcakes and community groups with drop-in activities.
Canada Post says it will transform its fleet of vehicles to be fully electric by 2040. The Crown corporation said the electrification of its 14-thousand vehicles will serve its commitment to reduce its environmental footprint and reach net-zero emissions by 2050. It has set aside 1-billion dollars to make it happen.
So far this year there have been 171 deaths from toxic drugs in Vancouver. That compares to 24 in both Kelowna and Burnaby, and 722 in all of BC. As the province waits for decriminalization of small personal amounts of illicit drugs in January, the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions says one of the reasons that people continue to lose their lives is the stigma that surrounds addictions and substance use. Shame and fear keep many people from accessing the care they need.
CIBC, which made 1.5-Billion dollars last quarter, is the latest bank to announce wage increases in an effort to attract and retain employees in a tight labour market. It will boost its minimum entry wage to $20 an hour from 17, and has committed to further raising it to $25 by 2025.
Smaller streets is one reason you see a majority of smaller cars in the United Kingdom, but the cost of gas is another. While the average price around here is about $2.18 a litre, the average price over there, is now around 3 dollars a litre in Canadian funds.

Last night at Madison Square Garden the Lightning took a 3 games to 2 lead in the NHL East final against the Rangers with a 3-1 win. The series goes back to Florida tomorrow where a win will put Tampa into the Stanley Cup final against Colorado.
The Toronto Blue Jays get to spend the weekend in Motown. Three games against the Detroit Tigers begin today just after 4.
The CFL regular season began in Calgary last night as the Stampeders got a late field goal to beat Montreal 30-27 at McMahon Stadium. Ottawa is in Winnipeg tonight and the BC Lions begin their season at home tomorrow when the Edmonton Elks pay a visit to BC Place.
Heading into the second day of the PGA’s RBC Canadian Open in Toronto, American Wyndham Clark is in sole possession of the lead after shooting 7 under par. Mackenzie Hughes is top Canadian at 4 under.
Red Bull driver Sergio Perez will be looking for his second straight Formula 1 win this season and a repeat of last year around the streets of Baku, (bah-KOO) (Azerbaijan) this weekend. The teams have practise today, qualifying tomorrow and the race on Sunday.
