High Streamflow Advisory issued for Mission Creek

Mission Creek and its tributaries are under a High Streamflow Advisory.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre issued the advisory Sunday, June 19, as 25 millimetres of precipitation has increased the flows.

The centre said the flows were increasing at Mission Creek’s East Kelowna station and at Pearson Creek’s upstream station near the Mouth.

The stream flows recorded Sunday were 58 cu. m/s at Mission Creek and 11.4 cu. m/s at Pearson Creek.

It was noted that though precipitation levels were lower than those recorded under the previous week’s storm, the creek flows are still relatively high, and it’s possible that the water levels and stream flows could increase further.

The public is advised to stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable river banks during high streamflow events.

Though the High Streamflow Advisory does not predict any major flooding events, it was noted that there may be minor flooding in low-lying areas.

The River Forecast Centre will continue to monitor conditions of the area rivers until they become more stable and present less risk to the public.
