The clock is ticking for locals to share priorities for the future of Parkinson Recreation Centre. It was Originally constructed 50 years ago, and the city is asking residents to imagine what the next 50 years for PRC should look like. The sergeant-at-arms for the House of Commons says he was ‘flabbergasted’ at how the Ottawa police allowed the harassment of members of Parliament and staffers to go on daily during the covid protests. Patrick McDonell says one woman was accosted by a man who tried to throw what appeared to be a bag of human feces at her before another employee arrived and pushed the man to the ground.
Defence chief General Wayne Eyre is reviewing the Canadian military’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate after a similar requirement for most other federal employees was suspended on Monday. The Department of National Defence says the requirement remains in effect for Canadian troops, even though it has been lifted for civilians working in the department.
The Kelowna RCMP has returned the stolen documents and medals to their owner, Michael Wintemute. He’s the son of Corporal John Milliman Wintemute who served in both England and France and was discharged on May 17th, 1919. They were stolen from a Kelowna home in the fall of 2021 but it wasn’t reported to police. The Kelowna RCMP is grateful to the public across the country and media for their assistance.
While most people in BC under 70 can’t get a second covid booster if they want one, Quebec’s immunization committee is recommending that the province prepare for another round of vaccination that could see some adults receive a fifth shot by the fall. It says third boosters should be offered beginning at the end of the summer to people 60 and over, the immunocompromised, health workers, pregnant women and people living in isolated regions.
Get set to pay more for milk… again. The Canadian Dairy Commission has approved a second milk price increase for this year. Farm gate prices will go up about two cents per litre, or 2.5%, on September 1. The increase comes after milk prices rose six cents per litre, or roughly 8.4% in February
On July 23, North Westside Road residents with valid resident ID cards will have a special opportunity to dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste products. From 8-4 they can be taken to the North Westside Road transfer station. No propane tanks, chemicals or commercial waste products will be accepted. Details are in the News tab on our website.
While US president Joe Biden considers a gasoline tax cut for Americans, don’t expect anything from Ottawa. Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson says the government is more focused on stabilizing oil prices by increasing supply, than it is on trying to cut prices. That could have come by offering Canadians a temporary reprieve from the federal gas tax.
Russian attacks laid down a curtain of fire yesterday across areas of eastern Ukraine where pockets of resistance are denying Moscow full military control of the region. The governor of the Luhansk region told the Associated Press “everything that can burn is on fire.” Moscow has struggled for weeks to overrun it completely, despite deploying additional troops and possessing a massive advantage in military assets.

The Edmonton Oilers have officially signed head coach Jay Woodcroft to a three-year deal. He helped pilot the Oilers to the Western Conference Final against Colorado after taking over behind the bench in February.
The Toronto Blue Jays wrap up their 3 game series with the White Sox in Chicago today. Last night it went to extra innings where the Sox took a 7-6 win in 12. First pitch this morning is just after 11 our time.
The PGA TOUR will introduce eight no-cut events for the top 50 finishers on the previous season’s FedEx Cup standings. The limited-field events will reportedly feature purses of $20 million each and will be held during the fall.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson reached settlements with 20 of the 24 women who sued and accused him of sexual misconduct or sexual assault during massage sessions. Watson remains subject of an NFL investigation into his conduct.
