Boil water notice issued for part of West Kelowna
The City of West Kelowna, in consultation with Interior Health, has issued a Boil Water Notice for the Sunnyside/Pritchard Water Service area.
A Boil Water Notice has been issued for the Sunnyside/Pritchard Water Service area due to high turbidity levels (image courtesy of the City of West Kelowna)The notice is an upgrade on a previously issued Water Quality Advisory, as the turbidity levels are leading to poor water quality.
High turbidity levels affect the disinfection process as bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms can attach themselves to particles in the water and become shielded from chlorine.
Under the Boil Water Notice, residents in the service area are advised to bring their tap water to a rolling boil for one minute or more before washing fruits or vegetables; drinking the water or using it to make ice or beverages; preparing food; making baby formula, or brushing their teeth.
Alternatively, people can use water from a safe source, such as bottled water or from the Shannon Lake and Asquith Road bulk filling stations.
Meanwhile, a Water Quality Advisory remains in effect for the Rose Valley Water System in West Kelowna.
The City will inform residents via its e-news service when the Boil Water Notice has been rescinded.
