‘Happy camper’ making the best of it while evacuated
Getting evacuated from your home due to a wildfire can be scary and stressful, but that hasn’t stopped Albert Garvis from still trying to make the best of the situation.
Garvis, an evacuee from Falkland, came into Wings Vernon on Tuesday night for dinner with a big smile on his face, even though he had been evacuated. He was still a “happy camper,” as he called it.
Staff at the restaurant say it was a treat to serve Albert.
“Wings Vernon was inspired by Albert’s positive attitude and big smile and bought [his] beer and the B.C. government paid for his burger [using a voucher], and he had a wonderful time,” said Sherman Dahl of the restaurant’s ownership company, Pretium Group.
“What a great reminder to stay happy no matter what. If you have a problem you can fix, why worry? If you have a problem you can’t fix, why worry? This is why Albert is a happy camper — he gets it,” Dahl remarked.
For his part, Garvis appreciates how he’s been treated while in Vernon.
“Wings is great. And so was Coras for breakfast today! Wings staff gave me beer to go with my burger voucher. I had a very nice day even though I was evacuated. Thanks Vernon,” exclaimed Garvis.
