It may have just been one bike, but police say it’s part of ongoing efforts to address property crimes in the community.

The Kelowna RCMP’s Community Safety Unit was taking part in an investigation focused on addressing the issue of bicycle thefts in Kelowna’s downtown district on Saturday, July 23.

Officers tracked a stolen bike to a grassy area near Sunset Drive and Manhattan Drive and spotted a man with the stolen bike.

“As the officers approached, the man attempted to flee the area on foot but was arrested after a short foot chase,” said Constable Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer.

Police say the 35-year-old man has been released from custody and will appear in court October 24, 2022, with the investigation in the hands of the BC Prosecution Service for review and charge approval.

“Kelowna RCMP continue to take proactive steps to address concerns of theft and property crime in our community,” said Della-Paolera.
