Crash and fire claim life on Trans Canada Highway
A horrific scene in Salmon Arm where a person trapped inside a vehicle on fire could not be rescued by Good Samaritans.
RCMP say just after 2:00 p.m. on Monday (July 25), officers responded to a two vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway just east of 30th Street NE in Salmon Arm.
One of the vehicles was on fire.
“The subsequent investigation revealed that a BMW SUV was travelling east when it lost control. The BMW SUV veered into the westbound lanes and into the path of a west bound Ford F-150 towing a tent trailer,” said Staff Sgt. Scott West.
West said motorists who stopped were able to get the driver and passenger out of the pickup truck with the driver and his female passenger taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“Despite the best efforts of the people at the scene, they could not get the driver of the BMW out of the vehicle which was fully involved in fire,” West stated.
RCMP are seeking any dash camera video from motorists who were in the area leading up to the crash, particularly of a silver or gray BMW X5 SUV travelling east between the 21st Street NE overpass and 38th St NE on the Trans Canada Highway between the hours of 1:50 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. on July 25.
