Kelowna RCMP are asking for help in locating a missing high risk 34 year old woman. Jasmin Davis was reported missing on Tuesday but was last seen on July 30 and may have been in the Kelowna area on the 26th. Davis is possibly with a man only known as “Chocolit” and travelling in a red four door Ford Pickup. Davis is described as an indigenous female, approximately 145 cm (4’9”) tall, weighing 72 kg (159lb), with dyed bleach blond hair. It is believed that she is living a high risk life style.

There’s no indication how it will be enforced, but Kelowna now has an anti-idling bylaw. It means vehicles are no longer allowed to idle for more than one minute within City boundaries. It does not apply to vehicles stuck in traffic and several other exceptions. However it allows for a fine up to $150 after a 6-month grace period.

The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board says its fund, which includes the combination of the base CPP and additional CPP accounts, lost 4.2 percent in its latest quarter. It ended the quarter with net assets of 523 Billion dollars compared to 539 billion at the end of the previous quarter.

Two Kelowna cherry growers will be the first Canadian companies to have their product on the shelves in South Korea. It comes after several years of work, much of which involved packaging requirement negotiation. Okanagan’s Jealous Fruits and Northern Cherries will be the first companies to try out the new agreement by sending shipments this month, which is expected to pave the way for more cherry exports in the years to come.

The BC Environment Ministry has issued an air quality advisory for our area. The Smoky Skies bulletin says smoke from wildfires could become more prevalent over the next few days unless rain from predicted thunderstorms clears the air. However, there is a chance that lightning associated with the storms could ignite new fires.

As Highway 3A remains closed with an update coming at 10, crews are getting more control over the Keremeos Creek Wildfire. Residents in Olalla were allowed to return home yesterday but are now on evacuation alert, while others in the Apex area remain out of their homes. There are still more than 300 wildland and structural protection firefighters from all over BC and they are being supported by 16 helicopters and 45 pieces of heavy equipment.

About 7:30 yesterday morning RCMP were informed of a body in Heritage Park near Ethel Street at Lawrence in Kelowna. Police identified him as a 26-year-old city resident. The Coroners Service has taken over the investigation and RCMP Victim Services are supporting the family during this difficult time.

If you are trying to sell your house, don’t expect to get what people were getting earlier this year. Desjardins is forecasting the average home price in Canada will decline by nearly 25 percent by the end of 2023 from the peak reached in February of this year. The Bank of Canada raised its key interest rate by a full percentage point in July, pushing up the borrowing rates linked to mortgages, and further increases are expected.

Sports

Canada is 2 & 0 at the World Junior Hockey Tournament in Edmonton following a 11-1 win over Slovakia yesterday. Captain Mason McTavish had 4 goals. Canada has today off before playing Czechia, or Czech Republic if you prefer, tomorrow at 3.

The Blue Jays are back home for a weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians. Game 1 gets underway today just after 4.

Going into the second round of the PGA’s FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Si Woo Kim and JJ Spaun share the lead after shooting 8 under par yesterday. Taylor Pendrith is top Canadian at 4 under.

In the CFL tonight, it’s an eastern conference matchup as the Tiger Cats host the Argonauts. Last night in Winnipeg, the Bombers missed a regulation last play field goal attempt for the win. In overtime, Montreal split the uprights while Winnipeg missed again and took a 20-17 win. The Lions are in Calgary tomorrow at 4.

The NFL pre-season continues with 5 games tonight and 8 tomorrow. One of the Saturday games has the Russell Wilson-less Seahawks in Pittsburgh to take on the Ben Roethlisberger-less Steelers.
