Kelowna RCMP is investigating an assault of a woman in the downtown core.

On Thursday, Aug. 18, a General Duty RCMP Officer on patrol was stopped by a group of citizens who were concerned for a woman who was bleeding heavily from a wound to her arm.

The woman was intoxicated and unable to provide any details on how she was injured.

Mounties provided first aid until an ambulance arrived on the scene, which then transport her to hospital for treatment of the non-life threatening injury.

Officers attended the scene at Mills Steet and Bernard Avenue where the alleged assault occurred and obtained surveillance footage that showed an altercation between the injured woman and two other females, who may be known to the victim. A man was also with the two other women during the incident.

The footage showed two women fighting. The victim was able to free herself and walk away to the area where she was later located by the bystanders.

The RCMP have not been able to identify the other individuals in the surveillance footage, nor do they know what type of weapon was used to cause the injury.

Mounties want to speak with the other women and the man seen in the video, as well as with anyone else that may have witnessed the altercation or have information about the suspects.

The Kelowna Detachment’s phone number is 250-762-3300. Witness tips can also be filed anonymously through Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers online or at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
