Fire breaks out in Kelowna apartment
An apartment unit in Kelowna broke out in flames Monday morning.
Kelowna Regional Dispatch Centre received an alarm from a four-storey building in the 1700 block of Ethel Street at around 10:30 a.m.
The first officer to arrive on the scene discovered a fire in a unit on the first floor, and the alarm was upgraded to a structure fire.
The sprinkler system activated and occupants of the building were evacuated.
Kelowna firefighters entered the unit and discovered the fire had started on a stove top. The sprinklers had helped with suppression, and the firefighters extinguished the fire completely.
There was no one home in the unit when the fire broke out, and the fire department has deemed the fire to be accidental in nature .
There was some fire and water damage to the unit on the first floor.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
