Police say speed was a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash in the Okanagan.

Officers in West Kelowna responded to a single vehicle accident in the 2100 block of Horizon Drive on Saturday, Aug. 20 around 5:35 p.m.

“Upon attendance it was determined that a motorcycle being driven by a 45-year-old Kelowna man had veered off road, striking a tree,” said Constable Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue recovered the driver from the bottom of a steep embankment where he was pronounced dead.

“Speed is considered a major factor in this crash which is still under investigation,” Della-Paolera added.

The BC Coroners Service and the West Kelowna RCMP are lead investigators of the file.

“The Okanagan is a popular place for walking and cycling. The RCMP are reminding drivers that speed limits are for everyone’s safety,” said Della-Paolera.

Anyone who saw the motorbike before the crash, or those that have dash cam video, is asked to call the West Kelowna RCMP at (250)766-2880.
