Suspects in Rail Trail assault arrested
Police in Kelowna say three suspects have been arrested in a crime that shocked the community and caused major injuries to the victim.
On Nov. 9, 2021, the Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a male being assaulted on the Okanagan Rail Trail east of Dilworth Drive.
“Officers located the 17-year-old male victim who required significant medical treatment at KGH. His injuries included a collapsed lung, broken ribs, nasal and dental fractures, a mild concussion and extensive bruising,” stated Constable Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer.
During the initial investigation, the suspects where not located, but after several more months of investigating, suspects were identified.
On Thursday (Aug. 25), RCMP arrested three Kelowna area men who are accused of the assault.
The suspects have been released from custody with conditions, and are required to attend court on December 15, 2022.
“This incident shocked our community and has been life altering for the victim and his family,” said RCMP Supt. Kara Triance. “Senseless violence that shift the public’s feelings of safety is intolerable and will be addressed with the full response of our teams.”
Triance added she is extremely proud of the officers who worked tirelessly on the case.
