Police in Kelowna have arrested a suspect in multiple business break and enters.

Kelowna RCMP Community Safety Unit (CSU) officers were conducting a proactive patrol in the downtown core in the early morning of Tuesday, Aug. 30, when they came across a man known to police.

The officers had been made aware that the man, a prolific offender, was a suspect of several recent break and enters in businesses in the area.

Officers confronted the man, who provided police with a false name in an attempt to avoid arrest, but the officers were familiar with the suspect and able to positively identify him.

The man, whose name was not released, was arrested and charged with two counts of break and enter, one count of attempted theft, and one count of theft of a security camera.

The man also faces various failure to comply with probation conditions charges.

The suspect has a history of B&E’s, having committed nine in Kelowna and West Kelowna between mid-2020 and early 2021. A majority of those cases involved break and enters in businesses.

The man was sentenced to various jail periods for those offences in May 2021 and the RCMP say it appears he has served over a year in custody.

The RCMP say they hope to remove the man from the streets and hold him in custody until trial.
