Drivers reminded to be safe during Labour Day weekend travels
The Labour Day long weekend means lots of people enjoying their final summer vacations, which increases the risks of collisions.
The Insurance Corporation of B.C. (ICBC) states that, on average, three people are killed and 600 others are injured in collisions across B.C. over the Labour Day long weekend.
That stats also include one death and 68 people injured in collisions in the Southern Interior.
On average, there are over 2,200 vehicle collisions throughout B.C. over the September long weekend, including 300 in the Interior.
The public auto insurer reminds drivers to check their vehicle is in good working condition before hitting the road; allow for extra travel time as roads may be busy; watch for motorcycles and be courteous with RV drivers and those towing boats or trailers; and be alert and avoid distractions.
