School bus stopped for speeding in school zone
Some drivers may forget school speed zones are back in effect, but usually that doesn’t include school bus drivers.
Mounties in Kelowna say officers pulled over a marked yellow school bus in a school zone for speeding this week, with children on board.
The bus was privately owned and contracted to transport students to a local private school.
Police say a speed detector recorded the bus driving above the posted speed limit of 30 km/h in the school zone. The bus was stopped and the driver was given a written warning. The officer also contacted the bus driver’s supervisor.
“A bus driver, who we trust with the safety of our children who blatantly disregards that responsibility, is shocking and disappointing to all of us” Const. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer for the Kelowna RCMP said.
The constable did not say where the incident occurred.
“Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Service, along with BCHP-Kelowna officers have been out every morning handing out several written warnings to drivers in schools zones which are [in effect] from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Kelowna School District,” Della-Paolera said.
