Kelowna RCMP are warning women that a man claiming to be a reflexologist is going up to random women and asking them if he can rub their feet. It has happened twice so far that they know of, and both incidents happened in parking lots. The suspect is described as middle aged, short beard, 5’10” with a slim build and was walking a small dog at the time. Anyone else who has been approached is asked to call the RCMP.
The Heather Lake wildfire which straddles the BC/Washington State border has grown to more than 10-thousand hectares. There has been increased smoke and visibility issues along highway 3 as BC Wildfire hopes cooler temperatures and damper conditions will help tame the flames. And the Flood Falls Trail fire west of Hope is now more than 500 hectares but eastbound traffic on the Trans Canada was reopened yesterday afternoon.
People were already lining up yesterday in London to view the coffin of Queen Elizabeth the Second. People from around the world will pay their respects to the Queen when her casket lies in state in Westminster Hall starting later today. Security staff are preparing for Millions. The Queen’s state funeral is scheduled for September 19th.
The Boil Water Notice declared August 3 has been downgraded to a Water Quality Advisory for the Lakeview-Rose Valley Water Service Area in West Kelowna. However, because an Advisory is still in place, the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads is still open to residents and businesses. Just take your own containers.
On Saturday, a big police turnout on Highway 33 past Black Mountain came after a report of a neighbour dispute which resulted in a man firing a gun. RCMP say residents of the neighbouring property where a family gathering was going on were secured with the protection of police until the subject was taken into custody. No injuries were reported and the man arrested was released with conditions.
A coalition on climate adaptation says Canada needs to set hard targets and goals to make the country more resilient to extreme weather. Climate Proof is recommending that air conditioning be a human right on par with winter heating as risks of extreme heat waves increase. The group is made up of insurance companies, disaster experts, Indigenous groups and municipalities.
Some low-lifes decided to target Central Okanagan Search and Rescue for a break-in. Yesterday morning, a maintenance team discovered their command vehicle had a side window smashed, its dash destroyed and items taken. A year ago, a COSAR equipment trailer was broken into and medical supplies, flare packs, radios, and LED lights were stolen.
Starting today, work for the airport terminal building expansion project at YLW will include roadwork and lane closures in front of the terminal. Throughout the duration of construction, stopping along the front curb will not be allowed and all curb-side metered parking in front of the terminal building will be removed. Guests can still drop-off and pick-up in front of the terminal.
Ukrainian troops have reclaimed more territory from Russia and pushed all the way back to the northeastern border in some places. The gains are part of a lightning advance that forced Moscow to make a hasty retreat from occupied land. As Ukrainian flags flew over newly liberated towns, the military said its troops had freed more than 20 settlements in 24 hours.

Hockey Canada announced the Rivalry Series between the Canadian and U.S. Women’s National Teams will return north of the border in November. Canada’s first two games on home ice since winning the 2022 Women’s World Championship will take place at Prospera Place on November 15 and in Kamloops on the 17th. Monday Night Football in Seattle saw the Seahawks spoil Russell Wilson’s homecoming to the Emerald City. The Hawks hung on to win 17-16 to wrap up the first week in the NFL season.
The Canadiens have named Nick Suzuki captain heading into training camp. He takes over for Shea Weber who wore the “C” in Montreal for four years but missed all of last season due to injuries. The 23 year old is the youngest captain in Habs history.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will need surgery for a fractured bone in his throwing hand. He will miss several weeks after getting hurt in the fourth quarter of the season-opening 19-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
