Kelowna RCMP pulled over a Hummer with Alberta plates that didn’t match the vehicle Saturday night near KLO. While talking with the driver, the Officer saw drugs in plain view and arrested the two occupants for possession of a controlled substance. A vehicle search turned up cocaine, meth, Hydromorphone pills, heroin, anabolic steroids, cash and evidence of trafficking.

Some kind of odor forced students and staff out of Helen Gorman elementary school in West Kelowna yesterday. They relocated to the nearby Glenrosa middle school. It was eventually determined that the smell was coming from a sealant being used in maintenance of the school’s foundation.

A group of UBC Okanagan students won gold with their creation of a living light bulb. The bulb aims to generate light from organic material and is not reliant on electricity and can convert greenhouse gases into oxygen. They competed in the 2022 International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition in Paris involving more than 350 teams from more than 40 countries.

If you’d like to get it done before the holidays, Kelowna is about to send out business license renewals for 2023. The deadline is January 16. Renewal notices will be issued for e-billing subscribers on Thursday, and paper billing notices will be mailed December 8 for those not yet registered for a Property Account.

Downtown West Kelowna is getting set for its annual Christmas light-up on Friday. Most activities take place on Brown Road from Main to Gossett between 5 and 8, with the lights being turned on at 6. Cryptocurrency lender BlockFi is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as the fallout from the collapse of crypto exchange FTX spreads. In a filing it reported liabilities ranging from 1 to 10 Billion dollars. BlockFi has 257 Million dollars cash on hand.

No more road disruptions in West Kelowna this winter for the watermain infrastructure to connect to the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant. Crews will shift to installation along the embankment between Blackwood Reservoir and Parkinson Road starting this week. This work is necessary to connect the West Kelowna Estates system to the plant.

The National Police Federation says it’s appalled by a court decision regarding an assault on a Prince George RCMP officer. She sustained a serious head injury in the assault which happened in August of 2021 when a suspect she was after, ambushed her. Last week an Abbotsford judge sentenced the suspect to probation with no curfew or substantial conditions.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is rolling back on a promise to introduce legislation this fall that would have outlawed restrictions on people not vaccinated against COVID. The Government house leader says such a bill will not be introduced this fall, as the focus is on other priorities. The legislature begins its fall sitting today.
