Mail delivery scrubbed in Okanagan communities due to air quality

Parts of Kelowna and all of Spallumcheen are not getting mail delivered today.

The change in service was issued Tuesday by Canada Post due to poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke.

“The safety of our employees is our number one priority,” said an update from Canada Post. “A red service alert means that we are suspending delivery for the day and not sending our delivery agents out, as air quality conditions have made it unsafe.”

The Crown agency said delivery will resume once it is deemed safe to do so.

The following regions will not have deliveries today:

  • Parts of Kelowna (postal codes starting with V4T)
  • Spallumcheen
  • Kleena Kleene
  • Logan Lake

The alerts are posted on the Canada Post Service Alerts website, as well as on Twitter and Facebook.

An alert can be issued for a particular community or an entire province depending on the weather event.
