A 22-year-old man from Kelowna is facing a number of charges after allegedly stealing a bait car in West Kelowna.

At around 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, West Kelowna RCMP received an alert from dispatch that one of the bait cars deployed in the jurisdiction had been activated, entered, and had left from its deployment location.

Dispatchers tracked the bait car’s location, speed and direction of travel, and RCMP from both West Kelowna and Kelowna moved into the area to head the car off.

“Front line officers intercepted the eastbound vehicle on Highway 97 South near Westside Road where it had stopped,” stated Cst. Solana Paré, Media Relations Officer for the Kelowna Regional RCMP.

“The driver and only occupant, a man known to police, was taken into custody.”

After apprehending the suspect, officers also determined he was allegedly in breach of several other court orders. The man was also allegedly driving while prohibited.

The man, whose name was not released, remains in police custody.
