UPDATE: 5: a.m. Dec. 25

Several B.C. highways remain closed due to the hazard of avalanches.

UPDATE

A crash on the highway in Spallumcheen is causing delays.

Drive BC says the site is between Powerhouse Rd. and Creamery Rd. on Highway 97A, first reported at about 7:30 p.m.

Expect major delays in the area.

The latest winter storm has led to the closure of the Trans-Canada Highway in several areas including between Sicamous and Revelstoke and from Revelstoke to Golden.

According to DriveBC, the road has been closed in both directions due to a high avalanche hazard.

Detours are not available.

DriveBC expects to update the closures later on Saturday (Dec. 24).

Meantime, Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon is also closed from Boston Bar to Hope over avalanche issues.

The Ministry of Transportation is also warning drivers about the threat of heavy snowfall or freezing rain along the Coquihalla highway between Merritt and Hope with a travel advisory in effect.
