Some money will be coming your way from the province. Eighty-five per cent of British Columbians will automatically receive a full or partial BC Affordability Credit that will provide as much as $164 per adult up to $79,000 in income and as much as $410 for a family with two children up to $150,000 income. The first of 3 will be deposited around the 20th, with the other 2 to come in February and March.
The BC Prosecution Service says it will not lay charges in the police shooting of a suspect in Chilliwack who was wanted on several warrants. The man was hit three times by bean bags and fell two storeys from an apartment balcony after the last two shots. The prosecution service says there’s no evidence the impacts contributed to the fall, which left the man with a broken heel and wrist.
Mercedes-Benz says it will build its own worldwide electric vehicle charging network starting in North America in a bid to compete with Tesla. When completed in six or seven years, the network will have 400 charging stations with more than 2,500 high-power plugs.

A study suggests children who were not breastfed while receiving antibiotics in the first year of life had triple the risk of developing asthma because they lacked specific protective sugars found in human milk. A pediatrician at Children’s Hospital in Vancouver says that while it’s been known for some time that getting antibiotics early in life puts children at higher risk of asthma later, protective sugars had not been identified until now.
The U.S. will send Ukraine nearly $3 Billion in military aid, in a massive new package that will include several dozen Bradley fighting vehicles for the first time. They are medium-armored combat vehicles that can serve as a fortified troop carrier on the battlefield. Germany will send a Patriot missile system, following Washington’s donation last month, to help repel Russian missile and drone attacks.

A New Brunswick man who killed three Mounties in 2014 is appealing to have his 75-year parole ineligibility period reduced to 25 years. The notice of appeal for Justin Bourque cites the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent decision to strike down a 2011 law making it possible for judges to extend parole ineligibility periods beyond 25 years for multiple murderers. With the reduction, Bourque would be able to apply for parole when he is 49 instead of 99.
A study calculates that two-thirds of the world’s glaciers will disappear by the end of the century at current climate change trends. For many small glaciers, it’s already too late. It projects global warming will melt between 38 and 64 trillion metric tons of glacial ice between now and the end of century. That would add 3.5 to 6.5 inches to sea levels.

After Canada lead for most of the game, 2 quick third period goals from Czechia gave them a 2-2 tie, sending the world junior hockey championship in Halifax to overtime. But Canada shone in the extra frame as Dylan Guenther scored to give them their 2nd gold medal in 5 months. The United States beat Sweden 8-7 in overtime for the bronze.
The Kelowna Rockets begin a home and home set with the Kamloops Blazers tonight at Prospera Place. Pregame show on 1047 The Lizard for both games starts at 6:35. The Rockets are looking to end their 6 game losing streak, which includes 2 to Kamloops.
Two goals from Andrei Kuzmenko helped the Canucks to a 4-2 home win over Colorado. Vancouver begins a 5 game road trip in Winnipeg on Sunday.
