‘Debris movement’ from slope caused Trans Canada Highway closure

A near 24-hour closure of the Trans Canada Highway west of Chase was due to debris movement on a slope next to the roadway.

In an email to CFJC Today, B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says no material from the debris movement landed on the stretch of Highway 1 between Shuswap-Chase Creek Road and Shuswap Avenue, but the province closed the roadway while geotechnical engineers evaluated the scene.

The highway reopened just before 10 a.m. this morning.

DriveBC first reported of the Trans Canada Highway’s closure shortly before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 8).
