Enterprise Way near Leckie Road was closed for about 12 hours yesterday after a collision between a pedestrian and an SUV around 2am. Police say the pedestrian, a 56 year old woman, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The SUV had allegedly been driven erratically just before the accident and RCMP say more details will be released as the investigation continues.
The annual Vaisakhi Parade takes place tomorrow beginning at the Okanagan Sikh Temple in Rutland. Rolling road closures will be in place from noon until 3 on Sumac Road East, Sycamore Road, Wallace Road and Ortt Road. Flaggers will be at all intersections to help direct traffic.
The BC SPCA is hoping to find a lot of homes for four-legged fur babies this weekend. As part of national Adopt Shelter Pet Day on Sunday, it’s cutting adoption fees by 50 percent. Many people got a cat or dog when they were at home during the pandemic, but have since surrendered them. The special fee is in place today through Sunday.
It looks like it’s going to be a great weekend for an outdoor party. Tomorrow, festivities for the French Cultural Centre’s MapleFest will be in Stuart Park and on Water Street, from 10 to 4 with food, activities, entertainment, and French culture. Water Street will be closed from Doyle to the Queensway roundabout from 6am until 6pm.
The BC United MLA for Kelowna-Lake Country says he won’t be running in the next election. Norm Letnick has represented the riding for 4 terms. He says with another riding being added in the Central Okanagan, it’s time to encourage new people to step forward.
Stats Canada says seasonally adjusted average weekly earnings, including overtime, in BC was $1,175 in February, up just over $21 from a year ago. That was the sixth highest in Canada after the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Yukon, Alberta and Ontario. The NWT weekly earnings were just under 1,600 bucks. P-E-I was lowest at just under 11-hundred.
The driver of a pickup is in trouble after police say he hit a parked car and ended up in a yard in the 600 block of Cook on Tuesday evening. He was detained for impaired driving and a passenger in the pickup was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Charges of Impaired Operation Causing Bodily Harm will likely be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for charge assessment.
If your weekend plans included playing in the backcountry to the east of us, you may want to change your mind. With the warming weather the avalanche danger has shot up to High from the lowest levels right up to the Alpine and generated an avalanche warning. Avalanche Canada says the likelihood of deep persistent slab avalanches will increase with each day of warm weather.
The federal Liberal government is showing no hints it will end the strike of its largest public sector union by legislating civil servants back to work. The workers with the Public Service Alliance of Canada walked off the job 10 days ago after contract negotiations with the government couldn’t find agreement on issues such as wage increases and remote work.

The Toronto Blue Jays, who are 3rd in the AL East have the Seattle Mariners in town for 3 games this weekend starting this afternoon at 4.
