Uber has been given permission to start services in Kelowna. It’s the latest company to be approved for ride-hailing services in the area, joining Uride and Lucky to Go. Uber acquired the license to operate from ReRyde in August 2020 and has been pursuing approval from the Passenger Transportation Board to operate in the Kelowna area.

People in the East Kootenays will have continued access to health-care services in Kelowna. It involves cost-free travel with the Province providing $300,000 to support Angel Flight East Kootenay. The charitable organization provides flights at no cost to residents, including cancer patients and children with a care giver. The number of patients flown, grew from 110 in 2021 to 570 in 2022.

Researchers who studied more than six-thousand former NHL players have found that enforcers lived significantly shorter lives, about 10 years, than other players who didn’t spend much time in the penalty box. A University of Montreal sports medicine and concussion specialist says the study strengthens the case for ending fighting in hockey.

Like many other areas, a portion of the West Bank First Nation is now under a water quality advisory. IR#9 had a reading in the ‘fair’ range yesterday. Rose Valley Estates in West Kelowna is also under an advisory now. Once again it’s being caused by turbidity in the lake due to the big runoff we had recently.

A Washington State man had a long walk home after being nailed for super-speeding on the Coquihalla. He was doing 262kph in his Alpha Romeo when he whipped past a cop south of Merritt. The man in his 50’s had his car impounded and was ordered to appear in court next month on a number of charges.

Mexico is poised to catch the next wave of demand for liquefied natural gas and surpass Canada in the global race to be a new entrant for exporting the fuel. One of Canada’ biggest problems?… No export locations for our LNG. A facility is under construction in Kitimat, but it’s not expected to be ready for 2 years.

A heat wave that’s expected to push daytime temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal norms is raising the wildfire risk in Alberta and BC, where crews are already battling early-season blazes in the north. BC Emergency Management Minister Bowinn Ma said officials are not currently anticipating a heat dome like the one that killed hundreds of people in 2021. There were more than 40 wildfires in BC yesterday.

Canadians will be able to renew their passports online starting this fall. There will be a new design, which includes updated security features and colourful pages. You’ll be able to upload the necessary documents and passport photo on a secure government website. Those applying for new passports will still need to go through the traditional application process with Service Canada.

A Hilton hotel guest in Nashville woke up to find the manager sucking his toes. The hotel employee claims that he only entered the guest’s room because of the smell of smoke. Never mind the fact that he didn’t knock, and that he somehow ended up with the guest’s toes in his mouth. He has been charged with aggravated burglary and assault.

NHL playoffs last night saw the Leafs stay alive with a 2-1 win over Florida. The Panthers still lead the best of seven, three games to one with game 5 tomorrow in Toronto.
In Edmonton, it was a big night for the Oilers as they beat Las Vegas 4-1 to tie their series at 2 games each. Game 5 is tomorrow in Vegas.

The NFL announced 5 games will be played in Europe this season. 2 will be in Frankfurt and 3 will be in the London.
