Less than a year after Pattison Media returned 104.7 The Lizard to the Kelowna airwaves, the station with a lizard logo has acquired the broadcast rights to the hockey team with the Ogopogo logo.

The Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets and Pattison Media have reached a three-year deal to air regular season and playoff games on 104.7 The Lizard. The hockey club will receive extra support through Pattison’s video-stories app Kelowna10, as well as sister radio station, 103.1 Beach Radio.

“I am over the moon excited that the Rockets are coming to 104.7 The Lizard,” Program Director Corey Fischer said. “The Lizard will bring energy and vigour to the Rockets like never before! We’ll be able to reach more listeners on all things Rockets, and the broadcast is going to sound so great on FM, and on our HD stream!”

“We are thrilled to partner with the Rockets organization to bring play by play to one of the city’s biggest radio stations on the FM dial”, General Manager Karl Johnston said.  “The Lizard audience not only loves sports and events, but the station audience outshares others when it comes to the love of Canada’s national sport.  This partnership will make a big station much bigger!”

“We are very excited about our new partnership with The Lizard and Pattison Media, and can hardly wait for puck drop on September 24th,” added Gavin Hamilton, VP of Business Development for the Kelowna Rockets.

In addition to leveraging existing products to support the partnership, Pattison Media will be launching a new, local online channel to live stream game audio to anywhere in the world, and host Rocket content created through this partnership. More details will be announced soon.

“For the first time ever, the team will enjoy the power of our promotional ability on FM and online, on a new platform created so fans can listen to games in real time or replays, as well as read about and watch team happenings from their smartphone, wherever they are and whenever they want,” Johnston explained.  “The leap in technology will be way bigger than going from AM radio to the FM!”

The Rockets open the 2022-23 regular season at home versus the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, September 24.
