There are two Remembrance Day events in Kelowna tomorrow. The Legion will hold its annual parade and ceremony downtown beginning at 10:40 along the lakefront promenade from Stuart Park to the cenotaph in City Park for the ceremony. The Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans will hold a ceremony at the cenotaph at Lions Park in Rutland. Guests are asked to arrive by 10:30. In West Kelowna it’s at Royal LePage Place and those attending are asked to be seated by 10:30.
The Sun Pointe Village seniors home in Kelowna has been placed in lockdown due to covid. The facility has 160 units ranging from independent living to long-term care. Interior Health says there are 10 cases among residents.
It’s looking more and more like US President Joe Biden will have a different Congress to deal with for the next 2 years. Latest projections indicate the Republicans will take over the House while the Senate was still undecided last night and could possibly stay at 50-50.
You have to wonder if the Great Okanagan Beerfest will ever make a return to Kelowna. After being cancelled during the pandemic and again this year, organizers have also cancelled it for 2023. They blamed the current ‘economic and societal climate.’
A gold coin discovered on Newfoundland’s south coast may be the oldest known English coin ever found in Canada. A Provincial archeologist says the coin was minted in London between 1422 and 1427… at least 70 years before the first documented European contact with North America.
The European Union has launched an investigation into X-box maker Microsoft’s planned takeover of video game giant Activision Blizzard, fearing the 69 Billion dollar deal would distort fair competition in the market. Microsoft is still awaiting scrutiny from antitrust regulators in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere. If it goes through, the all-cash deal would be the largest in the history of the tech industry.
Police were doing stop-checks on the Coquihalla Highway yesterday making sure drivers, and their vehicles were prepared for winter conditions. RCMP say proper equipment such as good winter tires, windows free of frost and snow, and using your headlights increase your chances of avoiding collisions.
It’s a lot easier to travel between Merritt and Spences Bridge again. After many areas of Highway 8 were washed out during last year’s atmospheric river, repairs have finally been completed. The heavy rains and flooding washed out more than 25 sections of the highway and rerouted some sections of the Nicola River. More than seven kilometres of road was completely lost.
Bitcoin hit a two-year low and other digital assets sold off following the sudden collapse of crypto exchange FTX Trading, which has been forced to sell itself to larger rival. Bitcoin traded under 18-thousand dollars, its lowest level since December 2020. Just a year ago, it hit an all-time high of 69-grand.

At Prospera Place last night, there were lots of goals and when it was over, Prince George had 6, but Kelowna had 8 for their second straight win and 3 of their last 4. Next up for the Rockets is a road game in Kamloops on Saturday night.
In Montreal, the Canucks lost 5-2 to drop to 1 & 1 in the East. Vancouver’s 5 game road trip takes them to Toronto on Saturday.
Thursday Night Football kicks off in Carolina tonight as the Panthers host the Falcons.
Everett Silvertips coach Dennis Williams, who helped Canada win the gold medal at the 2022 world juniors as an assistant coach, will lead the staff for the upcoming 2023 tournament.
