A test of the BC Emergency Alert system will happen this afternoon at 1:55. During the test, you’ll hear an alert tone and receive a message on radio, TV and compatible cell phones. Please don’t call 911 for more information about the test.
A 36-year-old Kelowna man who is well known to police was arrested after stealing a car with a GPS system in it. Early Monday morning police received a call about a break and enter and vehicle theft on Cameron Avenue. Using the tracking system, police located the vehicle and watched it and when someone got in it he was arrested. A 45-year-old Kelowna man, also well known to police, was arrested for possession of stolen property and is under investigation for the related break and enter.
The semi that ran into the corner of a townhouse in Kelowna last month forcing the residents out, is still embedded there, and now the family that was living there has been robbed. A single security guard didn’t notice people were squatting there and walking out with electronics and personal items. The incident of a stolen car and two arrests was connected to the house.
Students from kindergarten to Grade 12 will have more access to programs that develop skills for technology and other in-demand careers. Companies such as Digi-BC, N Power Canada and Jelly Academy provide exposure to digital career pathways. Funding comes from the StrongerBC: Future Ready Action Plan which is working to create more career-building opportunities for K-12 students.
Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly says she will be speaking with Canadian consul Jennifer Lalonde, who is being expelled from China in retaliation for Ottawa’s expulsion of a Chinese consular official over allegations of foreign interference. Joly says the federal government will update its guidance to travellers if it sees the risk to Canadians in China is rising.

Smoke from some of the 90 wildfires burning in Alberta is drifting into BC and affecting the air quality. Environment Canada issued advisories that wildfire smoke in the North Peace region and Fort Nelson could cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.
After some councillors expressed reservations about a change earlier this year, Kelowna City Council has unanimously endorsed a new electronic transit fare system. It could be in place by the Fall and the city’s infrastructure manager said it would make it easier for more people to pay to ride transit. BC Transit agreed to cap a day pass at twice the cost of a single ride which is currently $2.50 .
The Regional District has issued a precautionary Boil Water Notice for all customers of the Killiney Beach water system. It affects approximately 295 properties connected to that water system and is the result of increased turbidity in Okanagan Lake from runoff. Customers should bring water to a rolling boil for at least a minute before use.
Advice columnist E. Jean Carroll hugged supporters as a jury in New York found Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing her. The former president chose not to attend the civil trial and was absent when the verdict, which awarded Carroll five-million-dollars, was read. Jurors rejected claims that Carroll was raped in 1996, but found Trump liable for sexual abuse and for defaming her after she made her allegations public in 2019.
Sports
Both Canadian teams are active tonight in the Stanley Cup playoffs. First at 4, the Maple Leafs play game 4 against the Panthers. It’s a must win for Toronto as they are down three games to none. Then at 7 in Edmonton, the Oilers host Vegas with the Golden Knights up two games to one.
Major League Baseball and the players’ association have finalized their collective bargaining agreement through the 2026 season. It comes 14 months after reaching a deal that ended a 99-day lockout.
The BC Lions first preseason game is on the 27th in Saskatchewan. Rookie training camp opens today in Kamloops with the main camp beginning Sunday.
