RCMP say at least 15 people were killed and 10 were in hospital after a bus carrying mostly seniors, collided with a semi truck in rural Manitoba yesterday. The administrator of the Dauphin senior centre, said the bus left from there in the morning heading for a casino. The crash happened at the intersection of the Trans Canada and Highway 5 near Carberry, and a damaged semi could be seen on the side of the road and the burnt-out bus in a ditch.

Lane and parking restrictions will be in effect along Leon Avenue, Water Street, Lawrence Avenue and Abbott Street from 6-11am on Sunday. This is so participants can make their way into City Park for the CSN Father’s Day Car Show that runs from 11 till 4. There will also be some parking restrictions in the park itself on Saturday and Sunday.

The evacuation order for the District of Tumbler Ridge has been lifted, but an evacuation alert for the community will remain in effect indefinitely. Roughly 2,400 residents were evacuated June 8.

A 17 year old with a lead foot lost his ride for a week and his wallet is lighter by 368 dollars. He was nabbed doing 115 in a 50 zone in his Jetta on Stewart Road Wednesday morning. RCMP say there has been an increase in speeding along Stewart since the new South Perimeter Way opened up, so you can expect a larger police presence in the area.

Campfires remain banned throughout all Central Okanagan municipalities and electoral area Fire Service Areas until further notice. While the Kamloops Fire Centre is lifting provincial restrictions as of noon, the Central Okanagan continues to experience high temperatures, dry conditions and high to extreme fire danger ratings. Remember that smoking is not allowed in any parks in the region.

Almost two years after a wildfire ripped through Lytton, residents will soon be able to return to their properties. The Village Council voted to allow the local state of emergency to expire on Monday. It was declared June 30, 2021, after the heat dome wildfire raced through the town, killing two people and burning homes, businesses, the police detachment and village office.

A man has been remanded in custody after a stabbing incident at The Orchard Park Shopping Centre bus loop on Wednesday. Police were flagged down as bystanders disarmed the man and held him down. He faces several charges including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. The woman that was attacked is in hospital but expected to make a full recovery.

RCMP have confirmed that a suspicious device found in Vernon’s north end was dangerous and had the potential to cause serious injuries. Someone found what they thought was a pipe bomb on railway tracks by 31st Street Wednesday afternoon. It was the second suspicious device found in Vernon this week after another was found Monday in a park across from the courthouse.

The federal government has confirmed land expropriations for a railway bypass around Lac-Megantic. The Quebec town was the site of a deadly 2013 train explosion that killed 47 people. Several groups that are opposed to the bypass say they are unhappy with the decision and are studying legal options.

It’s a western matchup tonight in the CFL as Winnipeg takes on Saskatchewan. Last night in Ottawa, the Stampeders beat the Redblacks 26-15. The BC Lions host Edmonton tomorrow.

After a 3-1 win in Bellingham last night, the Kelowna Falcons head south to Wenatchee for a weekend series against the Applesox.

The Formula 1 teams have made the trip across the Atlantic for the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend. Qualifying in Montreal is tomorrow with the race on Sunday.
