The Supreme Court of Canada has declined to hear an appeal from the Hells Angels in BC regarding the forfeiture of three clubhouses in Kelowna, Nanaimo and East Vancouver. Solicitor General Mike Farnworth says his message to those involved in organized crime is, the government will continue to go after clubhouses, expensive cars, front businesses and luxury goods so they will not profit from any crime committed in BC.

Residents are being invited to give feedback on the quick-build Abbott Active Transportation Corridor between Christleton and Cedar avenues. The Israeli military is pulverizing the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip with airstrikes and preparing for a possible ground invasion. The military says its complete siege on the territory will remain in place until Hamas frees some 150 hostages taken during the deadly weekend incursion. International aid groups are warning of a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
As gunfire and rocket exchange continues between Gaza and Israel, Egypt has had intensive talks with Israel and the United States to allow the delivery of aid and fuel through its Rafah crossing point with Gaza. However, Egypt pushed back against proposals to establish corridors out of the enclave saying an exodus of Palestinians would have grave consequences on the Palestinian cause.

The Province and Kelowna have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together to better support people who are unhoused, sheltering in encampments and prevent future encampments. BC Housing is in discussions with Kelowna to build 120 net new units over the coming months, and is actively engaging with the city on opportunities to create more indoor shelter solutions.

An analysis finds that federal funding meant to bring 10-dollar-a-day child care across Canada has had a “slow start.” The report describes the results as ‘underwhelming’ in BC, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick… the three provinces where data is available. Ottawa signed separate, five-year funding agreements with provinces and territories in 2021, committing up to 30-Billion-dollars toward the establishment of 10-dollar-a-day child care.

Kelowna RCMP has seen an increase in tap, communication and online scams. Tap fraud involves the theft of credit or bank cards and quick merchandise purchases before victims are aware. Another scam involves individuals posing as employees of the Canada Revenue Agency or Service Canada.

Donald Trump is expected to be back in court next week for his New York civil fraud trial. His return will set up a potential face-to-face showdown with fixer-turned-foe Michael Cohen, who is expected to testify. The 2024 Republican front-runner voluntarily attended the first three days of the trial last week.

Team president Mark Shapiro says Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins will be back despite a disappointing sweep at the hands of the Twins in the wild-card series.
